Winning the 2004 Drivers Super GT500 championship and Super Formula (Formula Nippon) in the same season placed him among the top drivers around the world with this feat only being achieved by a handful of people.
From 2008-2011, Richard was recruited by TRD as a factory driver for the Super GT 500 Series.
Racing for Ireland in the short lived international A1GP open wheeled series along side some of the best drivers from Indy Car and F-1 as well as taking his skills down under to win in Australia in their V8 supercars championship, winning at the Gold Coast 600.
